The Law Office of Peter A. Shapiro & Jonathan D. Wilson is quite familiar with the financial hardships, physical pain, and emotional stress auto accident victims often must endure. On a daily basis we see the hardships injury victims go through as a result of the negligence or carelessness of others. We aggressively fight for auto accident victims in an effort to ensure they are fairly compensated for everything they are entitled under the law.
In Florida, it is not mandatory for the owner of a vehicle to carry bodily injury or liability coverage. That means many people out there are driving vehicles that do not have that coverage. So how does that affect you? Well, if you are injured in an accident with someone who does not have liability coverage, then there is no insurance coverage/monies available from the responsible party/parties for you to recover compensation for any injuries that you have suffered. So, the only way you can obtain the sometimes much needed compensation to pay for medical bills and loss wages (that are not paid by your PIP coverage) as well as for pain and suffering/loss of enjoyment of life is to carry Uninsured or Underinsured Motorist (UM) Coverage.
As long as you have UM Coverage on your own policy (or the policy that insures the vehicle that you are in), you will be protected. I recommend that you carry limits of UM Coverage as high as you can afford. For example, I personally carry over $1 Million of UM Coverage to protect me and my family and those riding in my vehicle. Not having UM Coverage is not a risk worth taking – I assure you.
